Q: Is Tri-Valley Inc. just for senior citizens?

A: Although the majority of people we service are 60 or over, Tri-Valley has some programs that serve disabled adults under the age of 60, and even children. It was our expansion in these areas that prompted our name change. We used to be Tri-Valley Elder Services Inc.

Q: What services am I entitled to in Massachusetts as a senior?

A: For the most part, there is no such thing as automatic entitlement to state services. Most services have a means test (income and/or assets) as well as other eligibility requirements such as age, health condition, etc. Tri-Valley’s Information & Resources Department is a good place to check and see if you are eligible for a particular program.

Our services are available on a self-pay basis to people who don’t meet state eligibility requirements.

Q: Does Medicare insurance pay for Tri-Valley services?

A: Medicare pays for certain home services, such as home health aides, nursing, or physical therapy for elders who meet Medicare requirements for skilled nursing services. Elders often receive this type of help when they first come out of the hospital.
Medicare does not pay for home care services such as Meals on Wheels, housework, and grocery shopping. These are state-funded through a home care agency and are provided on a sliding scale, depending on income level.

Q: Who qualifies for home care services?

A:
If you’re 60 years of age or older, your income falls within the limits set by the state, and you need help with personal care, meal preparation, or another critical need, you may qualify for assistance. Call us confidentially to discuss your situation.
If home care just isn’t working out, where can I get unbiased help looking at alternatives for housing and care?

Q: How often will a homemaker come to my house?

A: Some clients may receive service, daily or weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. The homemaker’s schedule is based on an in-home assessment done by a Care Manager. After the assessment is completed a Care Plan will be developed by the Care Manager in collaboration with the elder.

Q: Do you have low-sodium, home-delivered meals?

A: The Nutrition Department does not specifically offer a low-sodium meal, but the foods prepared are lower in sodium than most meals. It is recommended that you ask for our monthly menu breakdown and confer with your doctor as to whether the meals are appropriate for you.

Q: Do you pay the driver for home-delivered meals?

A: No. Do not pay the driver. A monthly statement is mailed to each recipient showing the number of meals delivered and the suggested donation amount. Enclosed with the statement is a pre-addressed envelope in which to return the donation.
