Pay/Money Management
Elders
who have problems managing their finances can feel more than safe
in requesting the help of our trained volunteers. There are no income
restrictions.
Tri-Valley
Inc. has operated a volunteer-based Money Management Program under
an AARP model since 1995. Trained and closely supervised volunteers
bring knowledge and reliability to the task of helping older people
manage their finances and balance their checkbooks. Many of these
volunteers have had careers in financial services. Advice is offered,
especially concerning people who may target elders to solicit funds.
And volunteers will act as a liaison with creditors to help resolve
problems.
The
Money Management Program also works with banks and financial institutions,
helping to train staff about the warning signs of elders who may
be confused about finances or spending in ways that are harmful
to themselves.
Our
Representative Payee Program goes a bit farther: In cases where
it is necessary due to incapacity, bill payers are authorized to
actually write checks from client funds to keep clients current
on their bills. Enrollment in this program could be appropriate
where someone can not pay or understand bills.
Our
volunteers do not provide tax, investment or financial management
services. They do bring the compassion that all our volunteers do,
often building friendships along with trust relationships.
