Personal
Care Attendant (PCA) is a state program that offers members
of MassHealth of any age an option to assist them with their personal
care needs, and remain in their own homes. Consumers must have a
chronic illness or disability and require hands-on assistance in
at least two areas (bathing, dressing, eating, medication administration,
transfers, or toileting).
This is a consumer-directed
program. The consumer’s responsibilities include being knowledgeable
about their conditions and needs, hiring and managing their own
workers and adhering to the MassHealth regulations for the program.
Tri-Valley,
Inc. will assist with obtaining approval, offering training in how
to hire, train and terminate workers, and assistance with understanding
the program regulations. Follow-up visits and support are provided
to ensure the consumer’s success in operating and managing
their program and in the relationship with his or her personal care
attendant.

Rick
Hoyt was born in 1962 with numerous severe disabilities. He graduated
from Boston University and participated in over 1,000 runs together
with his father, retired Air National Guard lieutenant colonel Dick
Hoyt, pushing his wheelchair. These include many Boston Marathons
and 212 triathalons.
"Team Hoyt" is a well-known symbol of inspiration, family
love
and motivation despite being a spastic quadriplegic, cerebral
palsied, non-speaking person.But
behind the monumental are the everyday challenges, and that's
where Tri-Valley has been able to play a part on Team Hoyt. Our
Personal Care Attendant program has helped Rick continue the independence
he strives
to achieve. As one of many PCA clients in Central Massachusetts,
the Hoyt family knows firsthand the relief and assistance the
PCA program can bring.

letter).
