The Ombudsman Program of Tri-Valley Inc. is active on behalf of
nursing and rest home residents and their families in South-Central
Massachusetts.
The Long-term Care Ombudsman Program was established by the federal
government in 1973. Massachusetts was among the first six pilot
projects; it has since been a pioneer in the field.
The Program's 4 main goals:
• To receive, investigate and attempt to resolve complaints
made by or on behalf of residents of nursing and rest homes.
• To protect resident’s rights.
• To provide information.
• To advocate for positive change in the Long-term Care system.
What is an Ombudsman?

A person who is concerned with protecting the civil and human rights
of elderly persons and others in long-term care facilities
• A problem solver and a mediator
• A resource
• An objective investigator of complaints
Who
can use Ombudsman services?
•
A resident of any age in a long-term care facility, whether for:
• Long term
• Short-term rehabilitation
• Disability
• Friends and relatives of long-term care residents
• Facility staff and administrators acting on behalf of residents
• Anyone advocating for residents’ interests
What
is the fee for Ombudsman services?
There
is no fee for services regardless of payment source for nursing
facility stay.
