Caregiver.

It’s a title that few of us build into our long-range plans, yet it arrives with responsibilities more crucial and challenging than those for some jobs that take years of training. But the word “caregiver” doesn’t need to resonate like the lonely echo of an empty room.

Tri-Valley Inc. has a long record of activism to make caregiving a shared journey. Case management for older or disabled clients is only the beginning. The respite care and social day care services we arrange are among those that begin to lighten what at first may have seemed like a weighty aspect of your life.

Family caregiver support helps family caregivers manage the enormous personal, social and economic challenges of caring for a relative or friend. The program assists caregivers with information, education, support and services that empower the caregiver and promote the ability to live independently in the community.

You may be eligible for information, assistance and support at no cost if you are caring for:

Any person with disabilities
An adult age 60 or over
An adult of any age who has a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease
You are a grandparent (over the age of 60) caring for a grandchild 18 years or younger

Caregiver specialist

A Caregiver Specialist provides information about the Caregiver Support Program and other elder care resources to family caregivers, community groups and elder care professionals. The Caregiver Specialist helps to raise awareness about caregiver needs through informational sessions, educational programs and outreach to local municipalities, community groups and businesses.

Elder care advisor

An Elder Care Advisor is available to meet with you in your home or at a location that is convenient to you. The Elder Care Advisor will assess your needs, provide information, identify options, and connect you to community resources. The Elder Care Advisor will follow you over a period of up to six months and refer you to more intensive services when necessary. This service is also free of charge.

Caregiver service scholarship

A scholarship fund is available to help caregivers to pay for temporary relief services.

Training and educational programs

Educational programs provide information on specific topics to assist caregivers with making decisions, solving problems and managing stress. Programs are offered free for caregivers.

Personal emergency response systems

An electronic backup system so those you care about can call electronically for immediate assistance.

The Caregiver Guide (free! Revised 11/07)

The 130 page Guide offers concise information and comprehensive community resources to people who are caring for an elderly parent or relative.

The Caregiver’s Organizer (free!)

The Organizer assists caregivers in maintaining important information on their loved one. The Organizer is available in 11 languages.

The Caregiver's Long Distance Caregiving Booklet (free! Revised 11/07)

The Booklets helps caregivers who live some distance away to provide care for a frail relative.

EMPLOYERS: Get your free Employer Caregiver Packet, a tool for human resources staff to help lift the burden of caregiving for members of your staff.
