Case Management Accelerated Training | PROGRAM SUMMARY
The mission of the CMAT (Case Management Accelerated Training) program is to recruit, develop, and cultivate the next generation of human services workers by teaching qualified participants the core competencies and fundamentals of case management through a tuition-free, paid 11-week intensive workforce development certificate program. A CMAT certificate will be a reliable verification of a CMAT certificate earner’s commitment, knowledge, and skill set, distinguishing them as a prime candidate for employment in a case manager position. The following requirements must be satisfied to earn a CMAT Certificate of Completion.
Attendance | The CMAT certificate earner must successfully fulfill the attendance requirements for the CMAT program. The program about 54 program days in length. Missing more than five (5) days of the program due to any reason or exhibiting persistent tardiness will lead to disenrollment.
Benchmark Unit Assessments (3) | The 11-weeks of the CMAT program is structured into three units, each ending in a Unit Assessment to evaluate the CMAT certificate earner’s retention and understanding of the material covered. The earner must successfully pass the three Unit Assessments with a minimum score of 80% per assessment. If necessary, CMAT certificate earners can use assessment corrections, where they must demonstrate a sufficient understanding of the material in a short answer format, to receive a passing grade.
Culmination Research Project | The CMAT certificate earner successfully finished a research project, mostly completed remotely and independently, requiring them to (A) research and define services and their eligibility criteria, (B) research and define specific populations and common challenges they faced in accessing services, and (C) create a mock case study to demonstrate the process of creating a service and action plan. Earnings could choose their own research topic, typically focusing on populations or services they are passionate about or wish to work with in the future. Grading criteria included organization, clarity, a PowerPoint visual, and a 15–25-minute oral presentation. A minimum score of 75% was required to pass.
Field Training | The CMAT certificate earner successfully completed all aspects of the field training, including shadowing case managers in the field, participating in assessments with consumers, and completing a field training journal with both long and short-form documentation entries. Earners demonstrated professionalism and respect in various settings, including in consumers’ homes and participating human services agencies. CMAT included ten field training days occurring during three separate weeks.
Person-Centered Case Management Online Certificate Course (Boston University) | Over the 11-week CMAT program, certificate earners engaged in several days of remote learning requiring them to plan, organize, and complete multiple independent assignments in a hybrid setting. In addition to the Culmination Research Project described above, earners completed the Person-Centered Case Management online certificate course from Boston University’s School of Social Work and Center for Aging and Disability Education and Research (CADER), an estimated 24 hours of work time (24 CEUs). The earners met deadlines to complete course modules throughout the program and demonstrated their ability to complete work remotely, an ever-present expectation of the modern workforce.
Case Management Accelerated Training | SPECIAL EVENTS
Special Populations and Services (SPaS) Guest Speakers Servies: CMAT created the Special Populations and Services (SPaS) speaker series to provide CMAT students with exposure and insights into the different functions and roles case managers play in the human services field. SPaS guest speakers consist of professionals with experience and expertise working with different populations and can examine how case managers support their clients, services and programs, and organization’s missions and goals. CMAT’s hope is for these presentations to inform and inspire students to pursue their passion with the skills and knowledge they learn from the program.
Career and College Fair: Hosted during the last week of the program, the Career and College Fair is an opportunity for CMAT certificate earners to interface directly with employees from the surrounding area, many of which partner as field training locations. The fair is exclusive to CMAT and not open to the public. For employers, this fair is an opportunity to meet and speak with CMAT certificate earners about potential employment at your organization. For our educational partners, this fair is an opportunity to provide emerging professionals with information and options for continuing education. Past attendees include: Tri-Valley, Inc., Elder Services of Worcester Area (ESWA), Seven Hills Foundation/You, Inc., Riverside Community Care, Open Sky Community Services, Department of Corrections, Wayside Youth and Family Support Network, Veterans, Inc., Anna Maria College, Worcester State University, and more.
